Previous Webinars:
TeamSTEPPS Webinar #6 - December 10, 2008, from 12:00
p.m. to 1:30 p.m., EST
Topic: Using TeamSTEPPS and Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Facilities
Summary: An overview of implementing TeamSTEPPS in nursing homes, assisted
living facilities, and other federally funded health care facilities.
The objective of this Webinar is to ensure that training participants have an understanding
of how TeamSTEPPS can be implemented in federally funded health care facilities,
including nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Facilitators will review
data regarding preventable medical errors common to these facilities and how staff
can address errors by using TeamSTEPPS tools and strategies. Facilitators will review
common teamwork obstacles in nursing homes and assisted living facilities and discuss
strategies for ensuring culture change. Facilitators will review an example of TeamSTEPPS
implementation in nursing homes, from designing instruction to sustaining changes
in behaviors and culture.
TeamSTEPPS Webinar #7 - February 11, 2009, from 12:00
p.m. to 1:30 p.m., EST
Topic: Designing Evaluation Systems for TeamSTEPPS
Summary: An overview of steps that need to be taken to design evaluation
systems related to team processes in practice.
The objective of this Webinar is to provide participants an understanding of the
process for evaluating culture change initiatives. Facilitators will review the
critical aspects of evaluating training in health care, including Kirkpatrick's
hierarchy of training evaluation criteria and then present a sample strategy for
evaluating the effectiveness of TeamSTEPPS implementation. They will present a case
study of TeamSTEPPS implementation and evaluation at an existing health care organization.
Facilitators will review TeamSTEPPS's qualitative and quantitative research methods
by using a self-report adverse events reporting system for health care practitioners.
TeamSTEPPS Webinar #8 - March 25, 2009, from 12:00
p.m. to 1:30 p.m., EDT
Topic: Post-TeamSTEPPS training activities
Summary: An overview of activities that organizations should engage in to
ensure lasting culture change.
The objective of this Webinar is to provide participants an opportunity to learn
about sustaining TeamSTEPPS. Facilitators from the Carilion Clinic will discuss
sustainment activities they employed after they adopted TeamSTEPPS in the allied
health service units that support medical and surgical departments. Facilitators
will discuss refresher training they provide to give practitioners a chance to practice
TeamSTEPPS tools and strategies after having used them in service. Carilion staff
will also review steps they've taken, such as developing promotional mementos and
other initiative-based paraphernalia, to ensure that TeamSTEPPS is a well-publicized
initiative.
TeamSTEPPS Webinar #9 - April 22, 2009, from 12:00
p.m. to 1:30 p.m., EDT
Topic: National Implementation of TeamSTEPPS for Academic Health Professional
Organizations
Summary: An overview of TeamSTEPPS implementation and the role academic health
care professional organizations play in future TeamSTEPPS efforts.
The objective of this Webinar is to provide training participants insights into
how professional organizations are integrating TeamSTEPPS into standardized curricula
and training. Facilitators will provide perspectives on professional organizations'
initiatives to integrate team training and communication-based instruction as part
of physician and nurse professional training and in-service professional development,
such as continuing education. Facilitators will also discuss the importance of developing
mechanisms for accessing professional organizations that influence training and
certify professionals.
TeamSTEPPS Webinar #10 - May 13, 2009, from 12:00
p.m. to 1:30 p.m., EDT
Topic: Dosing TeamSTEPPS Implementation to Ensure Culture Change
Summary: An overview of dosing strategies that have worked in existing TeamSTEPPS
organizations.
The objective of this Webinar is to provide participants with insights into an alternative
strategy for delivering TeamSTEPPS training. To date, the primary delivery strategy
has involved a complete review of all tools and strategies. Because this approach
can present logistical problems and limit the ability to determine gains in teamwork,
several organizations have turned to an alternate approach for delivery: dosing
by tool and strategy or team skill. Facilitators will review how dosing has been
successful at Duke University. Finally, facilitators will address lessons learned
about planning instructional design and sustainment when implementing TeamSTEPPS
via a dosing strategy.
TeamSTEPPS Webinar #11 - June 17, 2009, from 12:00
p.m. to 1:30 p.m., EDT
Topic: Using Simulation for Recurrency TeamSTEPPS Training
Summary: An overview of simulation for refreshing teamwork skills.
The objective of this Webinar is to provide participants with an understanding of
how to integrate simulation in TeamSTEPPS implementation and sustainment. University
of Minnesota facilitators will discuss how simulation has been used for recurrency
training in Fairview Health System's labor and delivery units. They will discuss
how the training uses simulated teamwork tasks for treating expectant mothers and
how simulation recalibrates staff use of the SBAR communication tool and debriefs.
Facilitators will present lessons learned on including simulation in the coaching
and sustainment process and how it affected staff feedback.
TeamSTEPPS Webinar #12 - July 22, 2009, from 12:00
p.m. to 1:30 p.m., EDT
Topic: TeamSTEPPS Contextualized for Contingency Teams
Summary: An overview of TeamSTEPPS in the context of Rapid Response Teams
and their environment.
The objective of this Webinar is to provide participants with an understanding of
how contingency teams, such as Rapid Response Teams and Code Teams, can use TeamSTEPPS's
tools and strategies. Facilitators will discuss how AHRQ's new module, TeamSTEPPS
for Rapid Response Systems, can be used to address common teamwork and coordination
breakdowns that occur while treating patients who exhibit signs of acute health
status deterioration. Facilitators will discuss how the new module provides tools
and strategies for activators and responders and offers system-support mechanisms,
like quality improvement and administrative feedback.
